Permanent roofline lighting as security lighting

A lit perimeter is the cheapest deterrent there is, and a permanent roofline system is a perimeter light on every side of the house with no motion sensor to false-trigger and no floodlight to blind the neighbors.

Owners who buy for security run a low warm white dusk to dawn and keep a bright white scene one tap away in the app.

How it's used

Nightly: 20 to 40 percent warm white on all sides, dusk to dawn. On demand: 100 percent cool white from the phone if there's a noise in the yard. Away: a schedule that varies on and off times so the house doesn't look empty.

Because every side is lit from the eave, there are no dark corners along the foundation, which is the main gap in porch-light-only homes.

At 30 percent brightness a 220-light pebble system draws about 24 watts. Twelve hours a night for a month is roughly 9 kWh, under $1 on Clark Public Utilities or about $2 on PGE. That's a fraction of a single incandescent floodlight on a timer.

Questions

Can it flash or strobe?
The app has flashing patterns. Most owners don't use them nightly, but a red-and-white flash is a one-tap scene some keep for emergencies.
Does it replace motion floodlights?
It complements them. The roofline gives constant low light everywhere; a floodlight gives a burst in one spot.
Can I turn it on from my phone when I'm away?
Yes, from anywhere with the app, as long as the controller has Wi-Fi.

  1. Open Google Maps, search your address, switch to satellite view.
  2. Right-click on a roof corner and choose Measure distance.
  3. Click each corner along the roof edges you want lit. The total in feet shows at the bottom.
  4. Add about 15% for gables you can't see from above. That is your number.
